Final Fantasy XIV European Data Center Closing on August 27

The FFXIV European Data Center closing on August 27 has shockingly surprised the gaming community, but Square Enix has managed to help the players who want to save their progress and FFXIV job tier list. The list of servers that are being shut down by Square Enix involves 4 different European servers Tycoon, Titania, Innocence, and Pixie.

According to the update from the website, the players belonging to these servers will be returned to their home servers once they are shifted to the Shadow servers. These players who will return to their home Worlds can buy FFXIV Gil to reclaim their possessions. Eventually, the players from the European servers will land at the Light or Chaos Data Centers.

Timeline and Transition

Starting from August 15, these servers will begin to shut down across Europe, and the official Final Fantasy XIV European Data Center will close after 12 days of it. This announcement was also confirmed and informed through the official platform of Final Fantasy XIV website.

Introduction of Shadow Data Centers

Before officially releasing the Dawntrail expansion, the Final Fantasy 14 announced that the Shadow Data Centers will be used as the solution to ‘alleviate congestions’ faced at the Chaos and Light Data Centers. These servers were based in Europe which were supposed to provide a better gameplay experience overall while reducing the connectivity issues as well.

Reason For FFXIV European Data Center Closing

The Shadow Data Centers were labelled as the “probationary” set of four overflowing servers, which states that the players would only be able to access them through the Data Center Travel. At the same time, it would restrict players from creating new players or purchasing any housing on top of it.

The existence of Shadow Data Centers came into being after the launch of Endwalker, which eventually came after a long queue of times while the server capacity reached its final limits. Therefore, in order to avoid similar problems like reaching the maximum server capacity, Square Enix stated Europe as the region for hosting the probationary servers.

Fans from the FFXIV community showed their concerns about being disconnected from the servers quite often while joining the game. After the announcement of FFXIV European Data Center shutting down, the Reddit community of FFXIV has felt a sense of relief that they will finally be able to get some stable gameplay experience. Many players stated that it was expected from Square Enix to take this initiative as they were able to adapt to the modern scalability patterns.

The news of FFXIV European Data Center closing was something that should’ve been done sooner rather than later, which is agreed upon by many classic players of the community as well. Now it’s time for everyone to ride back home, while the European region becomes reserved for the probationary servers only. Hopefully, in the future, we will be seeing a betterment in the connectivity infrastructure of FFXIV that brings a stable online gaming experience with the least connectivity issues.
